The Warren County Board of Adjustment approved approved the City of Indianola’s application for a Special Use Permit for the proposed Wastewater Treatment Plant during their meeting Thursday. The board had previously rejected the proposal, after nearby residents raised concerns about the facility impacting their home prices. After the initial rejection, the City of Indianola advanced the proposal to a court hearing, as they board operates in a quasi-judicial process. Judge Brad McCall sent the proposal back to the board of adjustment, citing the need for the board to consider the public good the wastewater treatment plant would provide for residents of Indianola, as the current facility is over 40 years old, and the fact that the DNR required the city to build a new plant. Currently, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources is reviewing plans as part of the construction permit process.
