Despite another tight home battle with a ranked conference foe, the Pella Christian volleyball team could not finish with a win against No. 10 in 4A Oskaloosa Monday, falling 3-2 (22-25; 25-21; 21-25; 25-19; 13-15).
All but one set was decided by four points or less, and the Eagles had to overcome a collapse in set three, where they led 16-9, only to close the set in a 16-5 deficit to the Indians. But the Eagles came roaring back in set four to send it to a final showdown. Pella Christian Head Coach Dr. Joanna Settles says despite the difficult outcome, she’s excited that the team continues to fight out of tough situations against talented conference teams.
Molly Bolt finished with 16 kills and Sarah Gritters had a dozen, with Emma Dunsebrger finishing with five blocks. Before the game, longtime Pella Christian Head Coach John Evenhouse was recognized, as he has been selected to the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
The Eagles finish the regular season at 13-15 and are locked in as the 6-seed in Thursday’s Little Hawkeye Conference tournament at Pella High School. The Lady Dutch finish the regular season tonight at home against Grinnell.
