The Heart of Iowa Conference cross country meet was held Monday at North Polk High School in Alleman. On the boys side, the hosts took home the team title with 32 points, earning tie-breaking procedures over Gilbert, who also had 32. PCM finished in the middle of the pack, placing sixth with 164 team points. PCM didn’t have any finishers in the top 15, but Beau Webb was the fastest Mustang, placing 21st in a time of 18:32.

North Polk was also the champion on the girls side with 51 team points. PCM finished third with 83 points. Individually, the Mustang girls had a better performance than their male counterparts. PCM had three finishers in the top 15, led by Paige Steenhoek in a time of 20:13, good for third place. Riley Devore placed 11th with a time of 21:39, and Margo Chipps placed 12th with a time of 21:43.

The Mustangs will have over a week off from competition before they head to state qualifying on Thursday, October 24.
