A final-round burst vaulted the Central College men’s golf team to a second-place finish against NCAA Division II competition at the seven-team Blue Tiger Invitational, hosted by Lincoln University (Mo.) Tuesday. Standing fourth after a 36-hole day Monday, the Dutch turned in their best round, closing at 310-319—307—936 at the par-72 Jefferson City Country Club, which was extended to a full 7,117 yards for the second day. The University of Concordia-St. Paul fired 310-306-301—917 for the team title. Central was the only NCAA Division III squad in the field. The Dutch will see another elite course when the fall season wraps up with the Atlantic Invitational Oct. 28-29, competing at the Jupiter Country Club in Jupiter, Florida. It’s the first year for the tournament, which features several prominent Division III programs.
