cancer-relay-4

The Knoxville Cancer Relay is just a week away with the relay set to begin with a special kick off event on Thursday, October 24th at 5 p.m. A kick-off meal featuring burgers and hot dogs will be served at the relay’s home base at the north end of Ken Locke Stadium on Marion Street for a free will donation. The running begins at 7 p.m. and culminates 24 hours later as the relay team delivers the ball for Knoxville High School football game vs. Newton. Steve Linsley with the relay tells KNIA/KRLS News what he believes is the most important part of the relay is that it continues to raise money for cancer while also being inspiring to the children and community members in Knoxville. Linsley says the Knoxville Coaches vs. Cancer event is the biggest in the country and the relay team is just trying to do their part to help with that event. Residents can run alongside any core team members throughout the duration of the relay with groups leaving from the stadium every hour on the hour. A special Memory Honor Mile will be marked along Highway 14 in which people can make donations for signs to honor those who have battled or are currently fighting cancer.
