Tulip planting is underway in the City of Pella. As of Wednesday, more than 10 percent of the more than 120,000 bulbs are in the ground courtesy of the Pella Parks Department. According to city staff, for most of the beds they use the trench method for planting bulbs. One planter prepares the trench, another places bulbs and a final person follows to cover. The Pella Cross Country team is expected to lend a helping hand and push the group to the finish line next weekend on Saturday, October 26th, when they work down Main Street. In total, between the City of Pella, Pella Historical Society, Fair Haven Memorial Garden, and local businesses, approximately 300,000 tulip bulbs are planted annually ahead of each Tulip Time celebration in early May.
