The teams of the Little Hawkeye Conference came together for the annual league tournament Thursday. Despite good competition on the floor, the event finished as it had started, with all teams finishing in order of their seeding, with no matches in the round robin pools going beyond two sets, but every match in the championship finals going to three sets to determine the cream of the crop in the Little Hawkeye Conference.
No. 5 seeded Pella edged No. 6 seeded Pella Christian in the 5th place match (25-21, 20-25, 15-13) after both teams went 1-2 in their respective pool play situations.
DCG finished as the league champion, defeating Indianola in a close championship finals. Pella Christian heads to Knoxville’s home tournament Saturday, while Pella is off until their Regional Playoff opener with Washington at home on Wednesday.
No. 2 seed Indianola came close but couldn’t topple eventual champion Dallas Center-Grimes in the finals, falling 25-16, 20-25, 15-5. The Indians went 3-0 in pool play against Pella Christian, Newton, and Oskaloosa in their pool to finish 2nd.
The Indians finish the regular season at 25-17 and open the playoffs at home Wednesday against Ottumwa.
