The final Ratings Percentage Index has been released by the Iowa High School Athletics Association before the 2019 football playoff fields will be set, with many local teams remaining in contention for postseason bids.

In Class 4A, Indianola sits on the bubble for an at-large bid after last week’s loss to Waukee. The Indians rank 19th in the latest ratings, and would need a week 9 win and some help to get back to the playoffs.

In Class 3A, Pella has all but clinched their way into the playoffs. The Dutch stand at No. 7 in the latest RPI rankings, and a loss on Friday would be unlikely to drop them out of either district title contention or for an at-large bid, as district rivals Grinnell and Oskaloosa sit at 18 and 19 respectively. At No. 28 in 3A, Knoxville has been effectively eliminated from playoff contention.

In Class 2A, PCM has jumped back into the top 16 and currently sits at No. 13. A win on Friday would likely get them an at-large spot and a road game to start round one next week.

The only path to the postseason for Pella Christian is a win on Friday against Interstate 35. The Eagles sit at 25th in the Class 1A standings, with the Roadrunners in 24th — meaning Pella Christian could not jump ahead of them in a three way tie scenario, which only happens with a loss. Pleasantville are the 38th ranked team and can not mathematically improve enough to get into an at-large position. Melcher-Dallas and Twin Cedars are eliminated from the playoffs in eight-player.

Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for continuing coverage, and tune in this Friday at 4:30 p.m. to hear projections and playoff scenarios for local high school football teams.
