Shingles is a very painful and potentially debilitating disease, and a vaccine is recommended to prevent shingles for those 50 and older. The shingles vaccine is available at any of Pella Regional’s medical clinics. Shingles is a painful rash that usually develops on one side of the body, often in the face or torso. The rash consists of blisters that scab over in 7 to 10 days and clears up in 2 to 4 weeks. For some people, the pain can last for months or even years after the rash goes away. According to the Center for Disease Control, in the United States there are an estimated one million cases of shingles each year and almost one out of every three people will develop shingles. To schedule an appointment to receive the shingles vaccine, request an appointment through the My Pella Health Patient Portal online or by calling the Pella Medical Clinic.
