The 2019 Knoxville Cancer Relay begins tonight. A special kick-off event will be held at the relay’s home base at the north end of Ken Locke Stadium on Marion Street at 5 p.m. A kick-off meal featuring burgers and hot dogs will be served for a free will donation. One of the organizers of the relay Steve Linsley tells KNIA/KRLS News what people can expect if they have never taken part in the relay. The running will begin at 7 p.m. and residents can run alongside any team members throughout the duration of the relay with groups leaving from the stadium every hour on the hour.Linsley says the relay culminates 24 hours later as the relay team delivers the game ball for Knoxville High School football game vs. Newton. A special Memory Honor Mile will be marked along Highway 14 to honor those who have battled or are currently fighting cancer. The KNIA/KRLS Lil’ Big Red Radio will be at the event playing music and making announcements.
