The 2019 Knoxville Cancer Relay kicked off Thursday evening at the relay’s home base at the north end of Ken Locke Stadium on Marion Street. A special kick-off event was held prior to the beginning of the relay and featured a free will donation meal of burgers and hot dogs. Despite the colder temperatures runners and community members flocked to the event which is held each year to help raise money for the annual best-in-the-nation Coaches vs Cancer event which will be held in January.

Runners hit the streets at 7 pm with the relay continuing throughout the next 24 hours with groups leaving from the stadium every hour on the hour. The relay culminates at the start of Knoxville High School football game vs. Newton as the relay team will deliver the game ball. The KNIA/KRLS Lil’ Big Red Radio was also on location playing music and making announcements.
