Indianola Parks and Recreation is moving the ice rink to the soccer fields south of the Indianola Middle School this winter. The ice rink, which was donated by the Iowa Wild last winter, was set up at Pickard Park but faced several issues from the various temperature changes leading to constant freezing and thawing. Parks and Rec Director Doug Bylund tells KNIA News Pickard Park had several limitations such as no water during the winter, and staff searched for a spot with an accessible water source, a level playing surface, and plenty of parking. Bylund also said the rink will open up this winter just as soon as the overnight temperatures are low enough to maintain a safe skating surface.
