Local Indianola students honored those who served Monday in accordance with Veterans Day, with several assemblies and programs. Victory Christian Academy students performed the Pledge of Allegiance and Pledge Poem, set the Fallen Soldier’s Table, and sang patriotic music.
Victory Christian Academy Principal Dr. Sandra Dop tells KNIA News many of the students remember the Veterans Day Program as one of the highlights of the year.
“The kids love singing patriotic songs, and we try to teach them a lot about our country. But the underlying part of it is when we ask them what they like about the school, one of the first things that many of them will say is the Veterans Day program. Especially the older kids who actually do serve the coffee and juice, and clear the tables, and understand that it truly is an honor to serve a veteran.”
Quilts of Valor assembled by Rhonda Ross and Wanda Bonnes were also presented to veterans. Assemblies were also held at the Indianola Middle School and Indianola High School, where local veterans of all the service branches were honored.
