At the most recent Knoxville School Board meeting, the board received an update from the Facilities Planning Task Force The update included a recommendation from the task force for the potential new middle school to be constructed in the area of the current high school grounds. Knoxville School’s Superintendent Cassi Pearson tells KNIA/KRLS News some of the opportunities provided with moving the middle school location include opportunities for the middle school band to practice on the practice field as well as the school being closer to Randy Wilson track, the Knoxville Recreation Center as well as West Elementary. Pearson says there is a lot of value in moving the middle school’s location. Pearson says a few projects that could be done earlier than originally expected due to the potential move include upgrades to the high school HVAC system because it is more cost effective to upgrade the system when attaching the additional building. She says the update also features adding the HVAC system to Northstar Elementary earlier than expected. She says all the project the task force recommended are part of the five year plan but she says the order in which the project will get done is all that has really changed. The middle school project is estimated to cost approximately $26 million dollar and could be paid for by General Obligation Bonds which would be voted on by the Knoxville community in March of 2020.
