An Ames man was arrested Thursday following a report of a vehicle theft which took place in April. According to court documents on April 10th law enforcement officers took a report of a stolen Ford F-150 from a rural Knoxville residence. Law enforcement observed 55-year-old Ricky Hartman of Ames in possession of a similar truck in May and June. The truck was located wrecked and inoperable by the damage and unable to be repaired on June 5th. Hartman was interviewed by law enforcement at which time he initially denied knowledge of the truck. Hartman was shown photographs of him with the vehicle and did not seem surprised by any information but did not provide any information other than claiming no knowledge. At no time during the interview did Hartman deny possession of the truck, wrecking the truck, or stealing the truck. Based on Hartman’s ongoing possession of the truck officers determined Hartman did indeed steal the truck and wrecked it, leaving it inoperable and depriving the victim of his property. Hartman was arrested and charged with theft 2nd degree, a class D felony.
