The City of Indianola is currently reviewing the current snow ordinance policy, specifically pertaining to sidewalk shoveling. City Manager Ryan Waller tells KNIA News the current snow ordinance states sidewalks must be cleared within a reasonable hour, while the policy states that sidewalks must be shoveled within 72 hours, and that timeframe is not consistent with other cities in the area, who have 24 or 48 hours in the policy. Waller also said council gave direction to city staff to continue to look at a possible change in the policy, however nothing has been approved by the council as of yet. The snow ordinance for Indianola is declared by the Indianola Police Department, who announces it after the National Weather Service forecasts two or more inches of snow to fall or has fallen in the city.
