The Central women’s basketball team traveled to Jacksonville, Ill. Wednesday evening for a non-conference tuneup against Illinois College.

It was a cold start for both teams, but the Dutch were able to gradually pull out in front, and led by as many as 15 points in the first half. Illinois College started closing the gap, and Central led 31-21 at halftime. The Lady Blues trimmed the deficit down to as little as four at one point in the third. Central fought back and iced the game with free throws down the stretch, and took home a 74-64 win.

Sophomore guard Maci Gambell led all scorers with 20 points and eight rebounds. Emily Hay and Carson Fisk each scored 12 points. Kelsea Hurley rounded out those in double figures with 11 points.

The Dutch are off to a 3-1 start to the season. They’ll be back in action Friday evening at Bethany Lutheran.
