A Melcher-Dallas woman was arrested Tuesday, following the report of multiple bad checks written to a business in Melcher-Dallas. According to court documents on November 6th the business owner reported to law enforcement that multiple bad checks had been written totalling totaling $609.87. During the investigation it was found that a few of the checks had been returned because the account on which they were written was closed. The account belonged to another woman. Law enforcement officers identified 42-year old Rae Becerra of Melcher as the person who wrote the checks. Becerra told officers the checks belonged to her deceased wife and that she did not know the account was closed or that she couldn’t sign her deceased wife’s name. Law enforcement told Becerra to make arrangements to pay the amount owed to the business for the bad checks and told Becerra if arrangements were not made, charges would be pursued. On November 15th law enforcement was advised by the business owner that arrangements had not been made. Becerra was arrested and charged with forgery, a class D felony as well as theft 4th degree, a serious misdemeanor.
