The Storm women shot lights out to get over the century mark in their American Rivers Conference opener against Dubuque Tuesday night, winning easily 101-59 despite leading scorer Jenna Taylor not in the lineup, while the men fell behind late against the Spartans falling 77-68. Kia Rasmussen shot 6-8 from long range to lead the Storm women with 20 points as the Storm build a 49-31 halftime advantage, then completely outclassed the Spartans with a 35 point third quarter to put the game out of reach. Simpson had four players in double digit scoring in the contest. Head Coach Brian Niemuth tells KNIA Sports he is still tinkering with the lineup to find the best fit.
The Storm men on the other hand played a back and forth game against the Spartans, with neither team finding much of an advantage throughout the contest. Dubuque had a five point lead at the break, but a cold second half of shooting cost the Storm a conference victory. Simpson shot just 5-19 from long range, with leading scorer Conor Riordan shooting 5-13 in the contest. Kyle Wagner and Adam Reiter led the way with 17.
The Storm women are now 2-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while the men are 5-3 and 0-1, with the women playing in a tournament hosted at Simpson this weekend.
