Heart of Iowa Conference basketball play begins next week, and for the PCM boys team, it will mark the beginning of what looks to be a promising campaign. South Hamilton is always a state tournament contender, and larger school Gilbert usually has quality teams. PCM coach Fred Lorensen says that along with the usual contenders, there are several other teams in the conference that will be greatly improved this year.

“You can go right down the line, our league is very, very good. Nevada is going to be good, Roland-Story is going to be much-improved. Saydel is going to be a lot better. You can just go right down the line with all eight teams that are in there, it’s going to be a great league. Our goal every year is to be in the hunt for the conference championship, and we were last year down to just the last game or two. We expect to do that again this year, and we’re going to have to play well to do that, but I think we’re capable of getting that done.”

The Mustangs begin conference play Friday, December 6th at Saydel. The girl-boy doubleheader will be broadcast on the KRLS3 stream.
