With the holiday season upon us, Wreaths Across America is asking the Knoxville community for help recognizing veterans this holiday season. Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, volunteers coordinate wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 1,600 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad. Knoxville’s Graceland Cemetery is one of only 16 cemeteries in Iowa that takes part in the annual tradition. There are 252 graves the organization is trying to recognize this holiday season and needs help from sponsors to do so. It costs $15 to sponsor a wreath and residents can sponsor a wreath by going to the Wreaths Across America website at www.wreathsacrossamerica.org and selecting the Graceland Cemetery Knoxville Iowa location. Anyone interested in sponsoring a wreath has only a few more days to do so as the sponsorship deadline is Monday, December 2nd. Local veterans groups as well as volunteers will place the wreaths at Graceland Cemetery on National Wreaths Across America Day on Saturday, December 14th at 11 a.m. Following the placing of the wreaths a military ceremony will be held at the Veteran’s Plot at noon.
