Small Business Saturday is today, a day set aside each year to encourage people to Shop Small and bring more holiday shopping to small businesses. Small Business Saturday was established in 2010 and over the years spending has reached an estimated $103 billion in the nine Saturdays since its establishment. Director of the Knoxville Chamber Hannah Vander Veer tells KNIA/KRLS News shopping local on Small Business Saturday is so important because every dollar spent is a vote. Vander Veer says its a vote for what you want to see in your community and in your area. She says if people want to see small businesses, shops and retailers surviving and thriving in your community, then you need to spend your money local and use those votes to keep them. For every dollar spent at a small business in the U.S., approximately 67 cents stays in the local community.
