The Indianola City Council met in regular session Monday evening. Mayor Kelly Shaw swore in firefighter/paramedic Jeremy Cross. The council passed a resolution approving a change in city code that changes the time residents have to clear a sidewalk on their property of snow, ice, or other accumulations from 72 hours to 48 hours. The council gave direction to city staff regarding the upcoming vacancy of the City Clerk position after the retirement of current clerk Diana Bowlin, and told staff to move towards appointing current Chief Financial Officer Andy Lent as City Clerk, appoint a Deputy City Clerk, and hire a part-time employee to help with administrative duties. The council also approved appointments to the Memorial Aquatic Center, approved a HUD EPA waiver for Home Forward Iowa, and heard a presentation from Terry Pauling regarding a project on the fence around the square.
