The Knoxville VA Outpatient Clinic hosted the VA Mobile Medical Unit during their open house Friday. Veterans and their families had the opportunity to tour and learn more about the unit as well as meet with Knoxville VA Outpatient Clinic Telehealth Staff, Program Coordinators and local staff as well as the Veterans Benefits Office, Eligibility, Home Based Primary Care, Mental Health and other specialty service representatives. Pamela South with the VA Mobile Medical Unit tells KNIA/KRLS News the unit stopped in Knoxville because the VA is wanting to get the unit out and exposed to veterans who are in different areas where they may be seeking care. South says the unit allows veterans to get enrolled in VA benefits in real time with the staff located in Des Moines and in some cases in other states by utilizing the unit’s telehealth services. She says the unit can also help take care of routine health care needs for veterans who might have difficulty with transportation to other VA locations. South says the VA’s goal is to make sure all veterans are getting the healthcare they need and deserve.
