The Pella basketball teams will step out of conference play this evening, hosting Ballard of Huxley in a twinbill at Pella High. The Lady Dutch are off to a 2-1 start, but will face their toughest test so far of the young season as the sixth-ranked team in Class 4A comes to town. The 2-1 Bombers bring a balanced group of top scorers to the table, as well as a defense that allows only 34 points per game.

Emotions will be running high in the boys game, as the Little Dutch will try to get revenge on the team that knocked them out of the postseason last year. Pella is 1-1, coming off a double-overtime loss to Pella Christian. Ballard has a close win and a blowout loss under their belts entering the contest. Pella has dominated the series since the programs began playing in 2012, with the only Bomber win coming in last season’s substate final.

Tonight’s doubleheader will air live on 92.1 KRLS with Jon Mohwinkle and Mike Buchheit on the call. Pregame coverage begins at 6:00, with the opening tip scheduled for 6:15 at Pella High School.
