The Indianola Indians girls and boys basketball teams got the better of their Warren County rivals Monday night, with the girls taking down Carlisle 69-47 and the boys 71-55 in a pair of games heard live on 94.3 KNIA. The Indianola girls got out to a quick start with Kendall Clatt hitting three three-point shots in the first quarter, with Lauren Blake doing the same in the second quarter. Combined, the two hit 10 shots from long distance in the blowout, with each scoring 25 points to lead the team. The Indians built a comfortable halftime lead of 40-19, and despite a back-and-forth third quarter, got the 22 point win. The Indians boys did not get off to a quick start, with neither team scoring much in the first quarter with the Indians on top 17-12, and despite building a double-digit second quarter lead, only led 29-26 at halftime. A third quarter run put the game squarely in Indianola’s control, and the Indians put away the Wildcats in the fourth quarter for their first win of the season. The Indians shot 20 of 23 from the foul stripe, with AJ Toigo getting the majority of the work as he went 12 of 14, part of his team leading 21 points. Head Coach Brett Watson tells KNIA Sports him driving is a big part of the Indians offense.

“That’s how we want to play, especially as one of his strengths is attacking the hoop. That’s kind of the basis of our offense, if he can kind of attack and attack, and if not then we go into our secondary actions. He’s a very tough guy, kind of a bulldog out there, gonna put his shoulder down and try to get to the rim each and every time.”

The girls improve to 2-1 on the season, and the boys improve to 1-2, and both will next play Friday hosting Pella.
