The Knoxville boys and girls basketball squads got blowout wins over Clarke on Tuesday night with the girls winning 62-21 and the boys breezing by the Indians 79-49 as heard on 95.3 KNIA. The highlight of the night was by one of the greatest to ever wear a Knoxville uniform, as Katie Keitges became the all-time leading scorer in girls basketball history for the Panthers.

Keitges needed 13 points to set the new record and helped lead the Panthers to a blowout win. Early in the game, Maggie Wilkins had the hot hand as she scored 22 of her 26 points in the first half. Defensive pressure from Knoxville also led to several fast break points for the Panthers. Keitges told KRLS Sports she was never focused on the scoring record, but says it was special to set another record at Knoxville.

Keitges:
“I would always dream of getting the 1000th point, but I really didn’t know there was an all-time career scoring mark. Never really thought about it, but it’s cool to have that.”

The boys game went similar to the girls as Knoxville caused several mistakes by Clarke and broke open a nine point game in the first quarter to lead 47-19 at the half and cruised from there. Spencer Hixson was the scoring leader for the Panthers with 21 points while Kieren Nichols scored 20, Alex Eckert had nine and Ben Olsen contributed eight. The Knoxville girls are 4-0 on the season and 1-0 in the South Central Conference and the Knoxville boys move to 1-1 and 1-0 in the conference. Both teams make the trip to Chariton on Friday.

The Knoxville Bowling Squads played in a triangular on Tuesday night with fellow South Central Conference schools Davis County and Centerville in Bloomfield. The girls won the triangular with 1,933 pins led by Lily Cieslak with a high series of 300 and a high game of 179. The boys were second, shooting 2,404, led by Keagan McCarty with a 416 series and a high game of 247. Knoxville is back at Newton on Saturday.
