Tomorrow is National Wreaths Across America Day, and at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville local veterans groups and volunteers will place 252 wreaths on gravestones to commemorate the day, as well as recognize the veterans who are no longer with us. Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, volunteers coordinate wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 1,600 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad. Knoxville’s Graceland Cemetery is one of only 16 cemeteries in Iowa that takes part in the annual tradition. The wreath laying at Graceland Cemetery will take place at 11:30 a.m. and will be followed by a special military ceremony at the Veteran’s Plot at noon. Anyone interested in helping lay the wreaths is asked to meet at the cemetery at 11 a.m.
