In a doubleheader that was rescheduled for 24 hours earlier, the PCM basketball teams were swept by Gilbert Thursday evening on the Mustangs’ home floor.
The Tiger girls entered as the fifth-ranked team in Class 4A, and proved to be too much to handle as PCM fell to .500 on the season with a 57-37 loss. PCM fell behind early and was unable to build any momentum in their first back-to-back losses of the season. Regan Freland led the way with a double-double, 20 points and 10 rebounds. The Mustangs fall to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in Heart of Iowa Conference games.
The PCM boys kept within striking distance through the first three quarters en route to a 71-46 loss. The Mustangs were doubled up by their foes 16-8 in the first, but were able to prevent the deficit from growing at the halftime break. A high-scoring third quarter by each team turned into a defensive slugfest in the fourth. PCM was held to only nine points in the final frame as the Tigers secured the win.
PCM falls to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference. A busy week of three games concludes, and the Mustangs will be back in action Tuesday evening at Greene County. That doubleheader will be broadcast live on the KRLS3 stream.
The PCM wrestling team traveled to North Polk Thursday evening, falling to the hosting Comets 52-23. The Mustangs got wins from Alex Courtney at 106 pounds, Landon Fenton at 138, Cooper Sloan at 220 and Seth Greiner at heavyweight. The Mustang wrestlers will be back in action Saturday morning at Ankeny Centennial.
