Dry Needling is now offered at Pella Regional’s Therapy Services in Pella. Dry needling is used to treat pain and tightness in the muscles, according to Physical Therapist Gary Elises. Both he and fellow Physical Therapist Shawna Fopma say muscles sometimes develop knots or trigger points and often are the cause of pain, and with dry needling, physical therapists push thin needles through the skin into trigger points to stimulate the tissue, not inject medication.

“Dry needling is a tool that is often used when other techniques are not as effective or a quicker response is needed,” said Gary Elises, Physical Therapist at Pella Regional. “Dry needling is also used in conjunction with other treatment plans. It is another tool in our tool bag that we use to treat chronic pain or injuries.”
