The Knoxville Wrestling Squad won two championships at its own invitational on Saturday and finished second overall with 152.5 points to Centerville’s 161.5. Luke Spaur, who took home his third gold medal in the last week, won the 120 pound weight class and Ian Crossett took the title in the 170 pound weight class. Runner-up medals for the Panthers went to Marco Alejo at 113 pounds, J.J. Beaver at 138 pounds, Koby Gordon at 145 pounds, Nash Linsley at 160 pounds, and Gavin Montalvo at 170 pounds. Spaur tells KRLS Sports the mental part of wrestling is what he is focused on the most right now…

Spaur:
“A lot of it is mental, because if you’re scared of the guy you’re about to wrestle, then you’re already done because you’re just scared and worried so you just gotta go out and beat him and do what you have to do.”

The Panthers will host a quad this Thursday at the high school gym.

The Knoxville Bowling Squad took on Newton in a head-to-head match up at Cardinal Lanes on Saturday. The Girls fell 2,315-2,068 with Lily Cieslak leading with a 321 series and a high game of 187. The boys beat the Cardinals by over 200 pins 2,745-2,471. Blaise Hubler had the high series with a 421 and Keegan McCarty had a high game of 214. Coach Shaun Renard told KRLS Sports the girls keep improving and most of the girls had their season highs on Saturday. He added the boys had the highest score since he has been the coach. Knoxville hosts Bondurant-Farrar next Saturday at Mustang Lanes in Monroe.

The Knoxville Boys starts a busy final week of basketball before the Christmas break with a road game at Grinnell on Monday. The Panthers are coming off a 66-44 win over Chariton and stand at 2-1 on the season while the Tigers are 4-1. The varsity game is set to tip off at 7:30pm.
