The Knoxville School Board met in regular session Monday. The board received a presentation of a petition from Invest Knoxville regarding the new middle school project. A total of 437 signatures were collected asking for the bond resolution to be put on the ballot in March. Only 383 signatures were needed. After receiving the petition, the board unanimously approved a resolution ordering an election in March on the issuance of $26,250,000 General Obligation School Bonds for the project. The board reviewed a proposal for a revision in the social studies curriculum, and approved trip requests for the 8th grade Washington DC trip in 2021 as well as preliminary approval of a 2021 band trip to Orlando. They unanimously approved an at-risk/dropout application for funding as well as early graduation requests. The board tabled a proposal to purchase 25 new hand-held radios for $12,875 and approved a quote for a new bus. The board approved the 2020-2021 School Calendar as well as a work session with area legislators to be held on December 19th at 6 p.m. They discussed the district’s legislative priorities as well as discussed a board meeting agenda/calendar, presentations, and committee work.
