The South Central Iowa Solid Waste Agency announced the winner of their most recent poster coloring contest during an assembly at Northstar Elementary in Knoxville Monday morning. Fifth grader Jade Vasco of Knoxville was selected as this year’s Grand Prize Winner, beating out students from 11 other school districts in the South Central Iowa Solid Waste Agency area. Jennifer Frampton with the agency told the children why Vasco was chosen as this year’s winner. Frampton says the first reason is because it is beautiful but says the second reason was because the picture exemplified this year’s theme of Don’t Feed the Landfill. Vasco’s picture will now be featured on the 2020 South Central Iowa Solid Waste Agency calendar. Along with being named Grand Prize Winner, Vasco a long with all her classmates will receive a t-shirt with her picture on it as well as a field trip to the Blank Park Zoo in the spring.
