The Indianola City Council welcomed two new members to its ranks at their most recent meeting, as Heather Hulen and Gwen Schroder took the oath of office. City Manager Ryan Waller tells KNIA News now that the two are sworn in, the task of bringing them up to speed on city business will be continuing a process that began when they announced as candidates.

“Once the filing deadline closes and we know who all the candidates are, we send them a letter congratulating them and thanking them for choosing to run for office. And then what we do is provide some basic information. That information is put out by the League of Cities, it’s a great resource that helps them get familiar with what their role is, what they should be thinking about when running for election. And then what we do is set up a time to meet with them to give them an overview on current projects.”

Waller also said after the candidates are voted in, they meet with department heads to meet the staff and introduce themselves, so even before the new candidates take the oath of office they are ready to hit the ground running.
