The Melcher Dallas saints had a double header of hoops last night, they hosted the Seymour Warriors and nearly came up with a sweep for the girls and boys. The Saints boys team dominated, winning 81-61, with the girls falling short 54-52 after triple overtime.
The boys were led offensively by Emery Sage, who was lights out from outside the 3 point line, making six 3 pointers for 22 total points. Saints Assistant Coach Pat Ferguson says having a successful three-point shooter can expand the offense.
“They made an adjustment in the second half and they put their best player on him, which now opens us up for the Krpan boys who are excellent drivers, and same thing with Joe Branson, he’s quick, he’s smart, lately he’s done an excellent job penetrating, and knowing when to distribute the ball, and when to take that little layups, so having Emery get hot makes our team pretty serious.”
Following Sage was Steven Krpan with 18 points, and Joe Branson who was using his strong cross over and to put up 16 points.
The girls fell just short, after great performances from Kynser Reed who had 24 points, but after three overtime periods, they were not able to pull out the win.
The Saints are back on the court tonight for another double header as they face rival Twin Cedars. The Twin Cedars boys team is still looking for their first win, and the girls are 1-7.
You can catch all the action at Melcher Dallas High School Gymnasium. Tip off will be at 6pm for the girls, with the boys following.
