After a long road trip on Tuesday, the PCM basketball teams will be back on the bus tonight, though won’t be traveling quite as far. The Mustangs will head to Nevada for the final basketball games of 2019.
The Mustang girls will try to head into the break on a high note after a roller coaster 4-3 start to the season. Nevada is also 4-3 on the season, but is coming off their worst loss of the season so far, a 57-29 setback to North Polk. The Mustangs will have to slow down Kacie Rewerts, who is by far Nevada’s leading scorer with 13.8 per game.
The PCM boys enter off a strong performance against Greene County. The Cubs have struggled to build momentum, stumbling to a 2-4 start to the season. Head Coach Fred Lorensen says that his team needs to improve their offensive pace, and tonight is a good opportunity to make some strides.
“We’re trying to get better offensively, have better possessions. Sometimes we play a little faster than we want to, the other teams want to speed us up and we kind of oblige once in a while, so we need to slow ourselves down there. And always, the defensive end is so important for us. Regardless of what kind of defense we’re in, man-to-man, zone, whatever it might be, we need great effort.”
Tonight’s doubleheader begins at 6:00 at Nevada High School.
