Melcher Dallas swept the annual rivalry games from Twin Cedars on Friday night in high school basketball. The Saint boys won 57-48 and now have a winning streak and stand at 3-3. The team’s momentum has started to swing the right away, and this was Assistant Coach Pat Ferguson on the team’s morale.
“Right now, I feel pretty confident in our team, our guys spirits are up, and it makes us a tough team.”
Twin Cedars Coach Blake McWilliams told KRLS Sports it was his team’s best effort of the season. Hunter McCombs scored 19 to lead the Sabers who fall to 0-7.
The Melcher Dallas girls came off a triple overtime loss the night before to Seymour, but were able to pull off the win 47-43. The girls game was tied at 39 midway through the fourth quarter, but Twin Cedars gave up several offensive rebounds to the Saints. Brooke Roby and Chloe Swank scored 16 points each to lead the Sabers, who end the pre-Christmas portion of the season at 1-8.
For Melcher-Dallas, Haley Godfrey had a big game, reaching a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Following her was Grace Overgaard with 9 points and 7 rebounds, and Kacey Enfield with 9 points and 3 assists.
Melcher-Dallas will be off until January 6th, when they host Murray High School, with the girls starting at 6pm, and the boys following. Meanwhile, The Twin Cedars girls are back in action January 4th at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines against I-35 while the boys are back at it January 7th at Lamoni.
