The Indianola wrestling team competed against some of the top teams in the state Friday and Saturday at the Battle of Waterloo. The Indians won dual matches on Friday against Waterloo West 57-16 and Davenport Assumption 36-26, but fell just short of Valley 27-28. Saturday’s matchups were equally tough, but the Indians answered the call with a win over Ankeny 37-30, Cedar Falls 26-28, and Osage 51-24 for a 5-1 overall dual tournament showing.
Head Coach Clint Manny tells KNIA Sports the Indians have held their own against some of the top teams that will be at Wells Fargo Arena at the state meet, and the Indians still have some room to grow.
“We’re still not at 100% our best lineup. I don’t think many teams across the state are yet, a lot of teams are still trying to figure that out, get weights figure that out. The hard training sessions in the early season gets some guys beat up, the long training cycle before Christmas gets some guys banged up. Every team is kind of that way right now, but there is definitely room to improve our lineup right now, so that’s exciting looking at the second half.”
The Indians have completed the 2019 portion of their schedule, and will next hit the mats on January 4th.
