History was almost made with the Knoxville Boys Basketball Squad last Friday in their victory over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. Kieren Nichols was just a field goal away from tying a long standing record for the Panthers. Nichols scored 39 points which was two shy of the record currently held by Brad Davis. Davis set that record during the 1998-99 season against Norwalk. Nichols currently has three spots in the top ten. Friday’s performance puts him third behind Davis and Kevin Long, who scored 40 against Albia in the 1980-81 season. Nichols is also among the top Knoxville players in points scored in a season with his 435 last season ranking fifth. He is currently averaging 27 points per game, which if he keeps on that pace, it would rank him second on the all-time average points per game list. The Panthers will resume their season on January 3rd when Bondurant-Farrar comes to town for a non-conference game.
