It was the warmest Christmas Day on record across south central Iowa. As of Wednesday at noon, the previous record warmest Christmas of 57 degrees in 1936 was broken in Marion County. Indianola’s previous mark of 58, also set in 1936, was passed by as well. Most of the area saw thermometers hit and even top 60 degrees as a burst of warm air moved through the region. A bit of a cool down will still keep daytime highs above average and dry through Friday evening, when a system mainly bringing rain will likely move in and stay through most of Saturday. Travel may be tricky in some spots Sunday morning, as light mixed precipitation may be around and cooler air moves in once again. Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for the latest winter weather information.
