The Central men’s basketball team was in Las Vegas over the weekend, playing two games at the D3Hoops.com Classic. The Dutch made comeback efforts in both of their games on Friday and Saturday, but were unable to finish the job either time, going 0-2 on the weekend.
It started with a 94-84 loss to St. Scholastica on Friday night. Central was able to hang close in the second half despite giving up 60 first half points. The Dutch got within two and four points at two different moments in the second half, but St. Scholastica had one final run to put the game away.
The Dutch took on New Jersey City Saturday evening, falling 87-62. Central led by as many as 11 in the first half before the Gothic Knights came back to tie it at 38 at halftime. Foul trouble doomed the Dutch in the second half. New Jersey City opened the half with a 14-0 run, and was largely able to coast the rest of the way to the victory.
Central falls to 4-7 overall and has lost three games in a row. The Dutch will return to conference play for good this season when they return home to host Coe on Saturday afternoon. That game will air as part of a women’s-men’s doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m. on 92.1 KRLS.
