As the Christmas break winds down, the PCM girls basketball team finds themselves tied in fifth place in the Heart of Iowa Conference standings with a 2-3 record. Also at 2-3 is South Hamilton, who the Mustangs have not yet faced. Leading the way in the league is North Polk with a perfect 5-0 mark. The Comets defeated PCM in December. Gilbert and Roland-Story are tied in second at 4-1, though the Tigers hold the head-to-head tiebreaker. Nevada, who defeated PCM last time out is 3-2 and in fourth place. Greene County and Saydel both round out the standings at 0-5. Head Coach Jeff Lindsay says that while the record might not be great at the moment, his team has the potential to be dangerous down the stretch.
“We have a lot of ability on this team, it’s them realizing it, and they’re starting to. I think once they come to the final realization that they can be not only good individually, but really good as a team, we could be pretty dangerous in the second half of the season and going into the postseason.”
It all starts back up on Friday evening when the Mustangs head to Roland-Story. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in Story City.
