The New Year’s holiday is a time of reflection as well as a time for many residents to set resolutions for the new year. One of the more popular resolutions is the hope to become more healthy and physically fit. Owner of KNX Fit in Knoxville, Chris Gordon tells KNIA/KRLS News many people have thoughts of getting healthy throughout the year not just during the New Year’s holiday but if people truly want to get healthy and get fit, it’s all about consistency. He says what he tries to do is help people understand that getting healthy and fit is something you should be trying to do throughout the year not just during New Year’s, and it starts with a sustainable habit and building sustainable habits through consistency. Gordon says one way that helps keep people consistent with working out and staying healthy is when they are not alone. He says people always do more in a group and do better in a group especially when held accountable to a peer instead of a coach or instructor. He says people tend to be more accountable to other people in their fitness classes then just to themselves. He says it’s not the coach or the instructors job to motivate you to get to the gym it’s their job to motivate you once you get there. Gordon says if people are unable to get to the gym they are always able to start eating better. He says to start slow and change your eating habits to eat more whole foods and watching portion size. He says getting healthy and getting fit starts with getting up and getting active.
