Over the winter break, the Pella boys basketball team got to meet the program’s most famous alumnus. On Monday, the Dutch players and coaches traveled to Chicago to watch Kyle Korver and the Milwaukee Bucks play against the Bulls. Korver met with and spoke to the current Pella basketball players after the game. Pella Boys Head Coach Derek Schulte says it was a one-of-a-kind experience, and that Korver spent a lot of his own time setting up the meeting.

“For us to be able to go to Chicago and watch the Bucks play, watch Kyle play, and then have him to speak to us and give us a great message, just in terms of team culture, player ownership, and using your platform the right way and all of those things, is an experience our guys will remember forever,” Schulte says. “I just can’t thank Kyle enough, for just his willingness to give up his time, because this wasn’t something that just took place in a short amount of time–he spent quite some time behind the scenes in helping to make this work.”

“He’s a great shooter and he’s a great player, but he’s an even better person and a great role model, and someone who represents our school and our community so well, and we were fortunate to be able to learn from him in that moment.”

Kyle Korver graduated from Pella High School in 1999 as an all-state player who made three trips to the state tournament. He is in his 17th season in the NBA, and during the game with Pella players in attendance, became the 4th player in league history to make 2,400 three-point baskets.
