While it lacked the dramatic buzzer beater it took one year ago, the Pella boys basketball team was able to rally late to beat ADM 63-61 in the first game of the new year. The Dutch rally came after the Lady Dutch fell earlier 55-48 in a non-conference doubleheader.
Pella trailed by as much as seven in the fourth quarter, but a costly Tigers’ technical opened the window for the boys in green and white, who took the final lead of the game with just under a minute remaining on a Logan Shetterly floater, which was the only lead change of the final eight minutes.
Shetterly paced Pella with his 20 points, Treyton Sturgeon scored 14, with 10 rebounds and three blocked shots, and John Oltman scored all 10 of his points in the 4th quarter to lead the Dutch rally.
The offense went cold in the second half of the Lady Dutch seven point loss in the opener. After taking a 27-23 lead into the break, Pella turned the ball over nine times and scored only five points in the 3rd quarter to allow ADM to take control late.
Madison Naig led the Lady Dutch with 19 points, 11 of which were scored in the 4th, and a 15 rebound, 8 point performance from Jasmine Namminga.
Pella’s boys improve to 5-2 overall, while the Lady Dutch drop to 4-4, and both return to Little Hawkeye Conference action Tuesday at home when they welcome Newton to Pella High School, a doubleheader that will air live on 92.1 KRLS.
