The Central basketball teams returned to conference play Saturday afternoon, hosting Coe. It was the Kohawks that came away with the sweep, picking up wins in both the women’s and men’s games.

The Dutch women shot just 35 percent from the floor and committed 23 turnovers on their way to a 59-47 loss. It was their lowest scoring output this season by 18 points. Central trailed 27-24 in a very low-scoring first half. The Dutch remained within striking distance for much of the second half. Central got to within 46-45, but only scored two points in the final 6:39.

Only one Central player scored in double figures, as Maci Gambell led the way with 10 points. Central falls to 8-4 overall and 0-3 in the American Rivers Conference.

The Central men traded scoring runs with Coe early on, but the Kohawks went on a 14-0 run midway through the first half to take a lead they would not give up. Coe led 50-39 at the half, and would lead by as many as 21 in the second half. A late Central surge trimmed the deficit to 83-76 with 53 seconds to play, but the Kohawks put the game away late to seal an 86-76 win.

All five starters scored in double figures for the Dutch, led by Drake Johnson with 17. Caden Mauck posted a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Central falls to 4-8 overall and 1-2 in the conference. Up next for Central is a doubleheader at Luther on Wednesday.
