The Indianola girls basketball team fell to Lewis Central to start the 2020 portion of their schedule Saturday 71-55, while the boys won 75-69. The girls fell behind early and just couldn’t keep pace with the Titans, trailing by just three at the end of the first 17-14, but lost each subsequent quarter after that trailing at half by seven, and the third quarter by ten. Lauren Blake led the squad with 22 points.
The boys got ahead early against the Titans, with a big first quarter leading to a 24-12 advantage. The Indians continued to build their first quarter lead to 42-26 at halftime, but the Titans refused to go away keeping the game close but the Indians played well down the stretch to pick up the victory. Caden Rehmeier scored 19 to lead the Indians, while Tyce Johnson put in 18. The Indians girls fall to 4-3, the boys are winners of five in a row and are 5-2, and both teams will next play Tuesday at Dallas Center-Grimes.
The Indianola wrestling team hosted the Warren County Duals Saturday at the Blake Fieldhouse, sweeping the event taking down Carlisle 63-9, Martensdale-St. Mary’s 66-12, Interstate-35 62-12, and Southeast Warren 75-6. Indians wrestlers who had a big day on the mats included Ryder Downey at 113lbs with a pair of wins by fall, Cooper Belt at 120lbs with three wins by fall, Nick Bonnano at 160lbs got a pair of wins by fall, and Miles Berg and Sean Cunningham each had 4-0 days, with a host of Indians all picking up multiple wins. The Indians will next wrestle Thursday hosting Grinnell in Little Hawkeye Conference action.
