District 40 State Senator Ken Rozenboom will have a new committee assignment this coming legislative session. Rozenboom, who represents Pella, all of Mahaska, Monroe, and Appanoose Counties, as well as portions of Wapello County, says he will now be serving on the State Government Committee, which comes in addition to his current role as Chair of the Natural Resources and Environment Committee and continued roles in Agriculture, Appropriations, and Education. Rozenboom was surprised to be given to the new committee assignment, which will be an adjustment and have a bit of a learning curve as the session begins next week.

“That came a little bit out of left field, and I’m a little surprised by it — and it will make me busier with one more set of committee and subcommittee meetings, but I’m eager to do it,” he says. “With my other committees, I have several years experience.”

One area he anticipates working on relates to the number of state boards and commissions currently in place, and he anticipates Governor Kim Reynolds may have some proposed solutions for the Iowa Senate and House to sort through.

The 2020 Legislative Session begins on Monday, January 13th. Hear more from Rozenboom on today’s Let’s Talk Pella.
