Pella Christian opens the year 2020 at home with Little Hawkeye Conference competition as Grinnell comes to Eagle Lane for a girls-boys doubleheader this evening.
The Pella Christian boys will look to take advantage of an improved Grinnell team that has lost four of their last five games, but features a solid core of players led by senior Jake Hull, whose 18 points per game is ranked 3rd in the league. Eagles Head Coach Larry Hessing believes it’s important to take advantage of the several home games coming up over the next few weeks, including tonight’s matchup against a Grinnell team largely led by their junior class.
“They do have some young players who have a lot of experience,” Hessing says. “They’re a junior dominated team, but a lot of them have been playing since they were freshmen. As I watch some video, I see them as some good shooters.”
“We’ve got some home cooking here coming up the next couple of weeks, so that will be good for us, but Grinnell will be a test.”
The 0-7 girls are seeking their first win against a Tigers team that has a 3-0 start to league play and the 2nd best scoring offense in Class 4A at 70 points per game.
