The Pella City Council held its first meeting of the new year Tuesday, with several new faces beginning their terms of office. Mayor Don DeWaard, and council members Liz Sporrer, Dave Hopkins, and Calvin Bandstra were all elected in November, and joined returning members Bruce Scheibout, Mark DeJong, and Lynn Branderhorst, all of whom are in the middle of their current terms. The board appointed DeJong to once again serve as mayor pro-tem, Ahlers and Cooney will continue to provide the city attorney, and Mandy Smith will continue as city clerk. Council also approved the second readings of ordinances amending permitted uses for amusement recreation zoning areas, as well as new provisions and definitions for urban gardens in the city limits. Council also reviewed the Harvest Investments Revised Development Agreement, 2019 Sidewalk Repair Project Bid, and took a first look at the 2021 budget ahead of workshops in February.
